witnessing your birth story through an honest and respectful lens

The day your baby is born will be the most incredible story of your lifetime. You will feel every emotion deeper than you ever have. Time will stand still and fly by all at the same time. And in the end, it will be both the most memorable day of your life, and the blurriest.

Having a professional on your team who's job is to witness and capture your story allows you to see your birth from the outside looking in. You won't have to worry about forgetting the details of every moment, big and small. Professional birth photography also gives your baby the gift of not only hearing about their birth, but seeing their birth story illustrated with beautiful, timeless images.

As a certified, professional birth photographer I am skilled in not only the technical side of photographing birth (hello dimly lit rooms and yellow hospital lighting), but I also have a deep respect for your sacred space, knowing how to document it without disturbing it.

Why birth memories are blurry

Something most people don't know is that birth creates an altered state of consciousness.

During labor, your brainwaves slow way down creating a deeply meditative state. While this is extremely helpful for coping with the intensity of labor, connecting with your intuition, and working with your baby to bring them earthside -- it also has a downside. These altered states of consciousness bring you so deep inside yourself that you miss what's going on around you.

Having a birth photographer means you get to be fully present in your birth experience and remember every precious detail.

Newborn baby in gray hat crying on mother's chest moments after birth in hospital.

My wife and I had originally hired Leslie as an addition to our doula for videography and photography for our first child, but after an unexpected turn of events with an induction and our doula being called into another birth, Leslie became our doula as well! We cannot recommend her highly enough.

Red-haired mother gazes lovingly at her swaddled newborn in a dimly lit hospital room.

Leslie is simply amazing! She went above and beyond for me. Even after the birth, checked in on me and baby and helped with resources to figure out my colicky baby. I couldn’t see my labors without her. She is such a critical part of birth and delivery. I depend on the photos from my last baby as I was put under for a c section and I have no memories of the hours post delivery, only photos.

she was a supportive and calming presence in the room. I never felt watched or uncomfortable, and I am so thankful I decided to have her take the photos and video. If I could go back I’d have her at all my previous births too! The memories I now have captured are priceless and will be treasured for years to come.

You might be wondering...

How does birth photography work?

Great question! Since birth (usually) is not scheduled and can be very unpredictable, I structure my life and business to be available whenever your baby decides to arrive!

I typically arrive at your birth location once your labor is well established, and stay for as long as it takes and up to 2 hours postpartum.

I capture your story from the time I arrive through your labor, the moment your baby is born, and the golden hour(s) as you fall in love with them on the outside.

Then I leave you to enjoy your baby snuggles (and rest!), and deliver your photos via an online gallery within 3-4 weeks after your birth day.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes — absolutely. I recognize that birth documentation is a significant investment, and 99% of my clients take advantage of flexible payment options. You’re welcome to spread your payments out monthly, or we can create a custom plan that fits your budget and due date.

I also offer a registry option so your community can contribute toward your birth support or documentary package. Many families love this because it replaces gifts that will be used once with support and memories that last a lifetime.

What types of births do you photograph?

All births. Every birth and every birthing person is different. Whether that’s a home birth (yes, even in Nebraska), hospital birth, medicated, unmedicated, planned induction, or cesarean - however your baby enters the world is valid and deserving of documentation.

When should I hire a birth photographer?

The sooner the better. Most families hire me by the second or beginning of the third trimester so we have time to get to know each other and prepare for your experience.

Because birth timing is unpredictable, I only take 2–3 births per month to ensure every client receives the presence and attention they deserve. If you’re considering adding me to your birth team, reaching out early helps secure your spot.

Do you travel?

I travel for births up to 2 hours outside of Lincoln for a limited number of clients each year. Availability depends on the season, weather, and my existing client load for your due window, but I love serving families throughout Nebraska (and occasionally beyond). If you’re outside my radius or due during a busy month, we can talk through options that still allow for meaningful support.

How do you balance birth photography & doula support?

I am a certified birth photographer and certified doula with Birth Becomes You - the leading educators for "doulatogs" (those who are in the doula+photographer role). That means I have a unique set of skills, training, and experience that allows me to move seamlessly between roles. Many of my clients want to keep their birth teams small and intimate, so hiring one professional for both roles is appealing and often more budget friendly.

Do you do family photography too?

Yes! One of my favorite things is getting to continue documenting your family as it grows over the years. My clients love not having to start over with a new photographer every season of life — you get to keep working with someone you already know, trust, and feel comfortable with while capturing your growing family and all the little moments in between.

I also offer maternity and lifestyle newborn sessions exclusively for my birth clients. If you’d like to book one, just reach out and we’ll get something planned.

Still have questions?

I offer a free, no-obligation consultation so you can get to know me and ask all your burning questions. The first step is to reach out to see if your due date is available. If it is, we'll hop on a video chat or meet up for coffee/tea to see if we're a good fit.
